Meet Cheryl Sills – Featured Jeweller in the MoAD Art + Design Week!!

Cheryl Sills works primarily with silver and modern materials such as silicone rubber and resin. Her fascination with combining traditional and modern materials started during her four-year degree course in Dundee, Scotland.

Cheryl is now based in Auckland and renting a work space at Workshop 6.

In her current work, Sills has taken a contemporary look at precious stones by handcrafting rubber stones and setting them in traditional style settings. In doing this, she hopes to question what makes a material precious. Can industrial materials, if crafted and manipulated to create a unique object, become beautiful and, in turn, valuable?

Cheryls’ work is amazing and is busy working towards a show at the Royal Jewellery Studio in Kingsland this Friday!! – so if you get the chance you should go and support her creative awesome-ness. Yes we want one of these!!!
